Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Maxwell ("Maxwell," "we," "us," or "our"), an AI-assisted writing tool. By creating an account or using Maxwell, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

Your account

You sign in to Maxwell with a Google account. You must be at least 16 years old to use the service. You are responsible for activity that occurs under your account and for keeping your Google account secure. Information you provide (such as your professional context) should be accurate.

Your content

Everything you write and upload to Maxwell — documents, comments, chat messages, and reference files — belongs to you. We claim no ownership of your content. You grant us a limited license to store, process, and display your content solely to operate and provide the service to you, including sending relevant content to our AI provider when you use AI features. This license ends when you delete your content or your account.

You are responsible for your content. Do not upload or create content that you do not have the right to use or that violates the law or the rights of others.

AI features and your API key

Maxwell's AI features are powered by Anthropic's Claude API using an API key that you or your team provide. You are responsible for the costs Anthropic charges to your key and for complying with Anthropic's terms in connection with your key. We store your key encrypted and use it only to make AI requests on your behalf.

AI-generated suggestions, edits, and feedback are produced by a machine learning model and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or unsuitable for your purposes. Review AI output before relying on it or publishing it. You are solely responsible for what you publish, wherever you publish it.

Acceptable use

Do not use Maxwell to:

• Violate any law or the rights of others, or create content that is unlawful, defamatory, or infringing.
• Attempt to breach, probe, or circumvent security measures, rate limits, or access controls.
• Interfere with or disrupt the service, or access it by automated means other than the interfaces we provide.
• Misrepresent AI-generated content in a deceptive or fraudulent manner.
• Resell or provide the service to third parties without our permission.

Teams

If you join a team, team administrators can manage membership and a shared API key. Your documents remain private to you and are not visible to teammates or administrators.

Termination

You may stop using Maxwell at any time and may request deletion of your account and data by emailing support@maxwelleditor.com. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or if we reasonably believe your use poses a risk to the service or other users. We may also discontinue the service; if we do, we will make reasonable efforts to give you notice and an opportunity to export your content.

Disclaimers

Maxwell is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that your content will never be lost — keep copies of anything important.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Maxwell and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim arising out of these Terms or the service will not exceed the greater of $100 or the amount you paid us for the service in the twelve months before the claim arose.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you within the app. Continued use of Maxwell after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
